THRICE--TO BE EVERYWHERE IS TO BE NOWHERE (Vagrant Records) Written By: Jackie Ryan
Hailing from Irvine, CA, these boys have been around since 1999. They recently came back from a hiatus and brought fans their newest album TOBE EVERYWHERE IS TO BE NOWHERE. They open the album with HURRICANE, sharing their talents on guitar, bass, drums, and even vocals. The first single BLOOD ON THE SAND is rhythmic and emphasizes the drumming skills of RILEY BRECKENRIDGE. THE WINDOW brings out the synthesizers more and is accompanied by DUSTIN KENSRUE’S vocals, soft and intense at the same time. SENECA is the only song on the album that stood out to me, it is all instrumental and is somehow inspirational. Then we get into the second single off the album BLACK HONEY, following that same instrumental element from SENECA, harmonized with KENSRUE’S vocals. DEATH FROM ABOVE is a melodic song that illustrates the original THRICE, heavy and not afraid to be different. WHISTLEBLOWER and SALT AND SHADOW both have an IMAGINE DRAGONS feel to me, rhythmic and scratchy vocals. Honestly, the album is good; they still have some of the same sound and bring together all the musical elements in a different way with this album. I feel like there is a deeper meaning to this album compared to the rest, they took the time to dig deeper within themselves with their 2-year hiatus.
