THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON TOLD BY DISCIPLES OF BABYLON BY: JACKIE RYAN
DISCIPLES OF BABYLON don’t need much of an introduction, but that are a 4-piece rock band out of Hollywood. They have had a lot to say about our country and its ups and downs, to learn more about them and their newest album THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON continue reading.
TELL US WHO IS DISCIPLES OF BABYLON?
Chris Toeller: We are a 4-piece Rock group consisting of Eric Knight on vocals, Ramon Blanco on the guitar, Gui Bodi on the bass, and Chris Toeller on the drums.
Ramon Blanco: Eric is originally from Miami, Gui is from Brazil, Chris from Chicago and I am from Spain. We all live and are based in Los Angeles.
DESCRIBE FOR US WHY YOU DECIDED TO GO WITH A RISE AND FALL THEME FOR THIS ALBUM, DOES IT REALLY REPRESENT OUR COUNTRY?
Eric Knight: I knew I wanted to use that title for a while now. I felt it was direct reflection of where the country was and has been heading I believe for a long time now. Even before our current political climate that we find ourselves in as a country, you can see the signs of things devolving long before. We are very divided as a nation and we are no longer viewed as a major force on the world stage and that is very concerning to myself and millions of others. This is not a concept record although we do touch on subjects within the lyrics of the songs that lends themselves as relatable to the title of the record. Ultimately, ‘THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON’ was a title I felt would be thought provoking, coupled with the album cover and it makes for something I think the person who looks at it at first glance would be intrigued enough to want to listen to it.
YOU TALK ABOUT WANTING THE AUDIENCE TO HEAR WHAT THEY WOULD HEAR ON THE ALBUM DURING LIVE SHOWS, HOW DID YOU ACHIEVE THIS IN THE STUDIO.
Chris Toeller: I think it's almost always ideal to sound at least as good as the record when you’re performing live because, as an artist, you don’t want to disappoint your fans and other people in the audience who may be hearing you for the first time. So, for us, we are always trying to achieve that, bare minimum. During our writing sessions and in the studio, we were always considering how we would be able to pull everything off live. I mean, I personally love records where there are tons of instrumental elements and lots of production happening, but that type of stuff isn’t really achievable live with a 4-piece group and we don’t want to be one of those bands where half of the instrumentation is playback through the PA system. We do use some backing tracks to support what’s actually happening on stage, but we are very very cautious not to overdo it. I think we all have this mentality of integrity when it comes to our music and our live shows.
Gui Bodi: We had the privilege of recording at the amazing Stagg Street Studio with our rewarded producer Andres Torres, using great gear and instruments, that alone gives the album a great sound from the get go. On top of that, we spent some time with production elements, everything that any major band or artist does in the studio, like doubling the guitars and adding layers of backing vocals, things that enhance and compliment the recording without taking away the focus of the four main elements of the band: Drums, Vocals, Guitars and Bass.
FOLLOW UP, HOW DO YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE ACHIEVING THIS WHILE ON TOUR?
Chris Toeller: Before we get out on the road, we will certainly rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse some more just to be sure that we sound our best every night. Touring can be rough and exhausting, so we’ll need to sound great even under the worst possible conditions.
Gui Bodi: Live we are going to be adding some of those production elements mentioned above, especially things that add texture to our sound, but just like in the album, we will be playing and performing our parts, that are the most important aspect of our music, and we like to make some different arrangement changes for the live versions of our songs, so people can always expect some surprises during our live sets!
HOW HAS THE RESPONSE BEEN WITH YOUR NEWEST ALBUM THE RISE AND FALL OF BABYLON?
Ramon Blanco: The response has been great! We’ve had people from all over the world writing us telling us that they love the album and we have been getting an amazing response with radio all over the world. We are ecstatic about the general response the record has received.
Chris Toeller: We are incredibly happy with the reception of this most recent record. So far, our fans and social media are loving it, and the word is spreading. Right now, it’s all about getting more and more people listening and sharing with their friends.
WHAT WAS IT LIKE PRODUCING WITH ANDRES TORRES?
Ramon Blanco: He is incredible, and he always thinks in terms of the song and the audience. We have been working with him since the very beginning and are very happy to have him on the team.
Eric Knight: Andres is just very gifted in what he does and is just so talented that it’s scary. I’ve learned so much from him in terms of production and arrangement. We are incredibly fortunate and so thankful to have him involved with this project, it's been a great experience.
Chris Toeller: The man is a genius and gifted beyond comprehension. Period.
YOU ARE SOON RELEASING A LIVE VERSION OF LIBERTY, WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS SONG?
Ramon Blanco: LIBERTY, is a brand-new song that we just wrote and we played it together for the first time at our recent record release concert at the Viper Room. It came out very cool and we thought why not.
Chris Toeller: Well, we typically like to give the audience something that they’ve absolutely never heard when we play a significant show like our album release. Eric was working on this new song and brought it into one of our rehearsals, so we all worked on it together and decided it would fit in well with the rest of our music for this show. It also fits the theme of the some of the songs on our most recent record, with songs like FREEDOM and WE ARE THE ONES where Eric discusses resisting and overcoming oppression.
AFTER GOING THROUGH SOME OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA AND LISTENING TO THE RISE AND FALL YOU SEEM REALLY INVESTED IN THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY, DO YOU PLAN TO DO ANY BENEFIT SHOWS AND WHICH ONES WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THE MOST?
Eric Knight: We definitely want to be a band for the people that is for sure. We’d like to get involved in many charitable events and organizations. Our ‘Babylon Society’ movement is one that we are trying to develop into an organization in which it helps people and supports different causes that are near and dear to our hearts. We are also huge supporters of our military and would love to get involved with doing shows for them and just give back in any way we can for their amazing sacrifice and commitment to protect and defend our nation.
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS FOR DOB?
Chris Toeller: We will definitely be out on the road promoting this most recent record and getting it out there. That’s our priority right now, in addition to making a music video or two for some of these songs.
Eric Knight: Complete and total global domination!
ANYTHING YOU WANT YOUR FANS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

We are so appreciative of all of your support, and we hope to continue making music that you can enjoy and blast in your car on your way home from work or while your doing chores around the house. Whatever it may be. Also, don’t forget to add us to your Spotify playlists as well! All of those streams count! Thank you!
Eric Knight: I think we all are blown away by the response we’ve received from around the world. We are so thankful to everyone everyday who are discovering our music or commenting and supporting what we do and we don’t take that lightly. We want to continue writing great songs and delivering an amazing live show and experience for everyone.
Gui Bodi: If you want to support us and be more involved with the Disciples of Babylon, join our ‘Babylon Society’ movement and become an active member, together we are stronger!
