DED—MIS.AN.THROPE SURETONE RECORDS (RELEASE: JULY 21, 2017) WWW.DEDBAND.COM BY: Stephanie Stevens
If you are a rock, metal, hard rock fan then the band DED has probably crossed your eardrums or your eyes because this band has come out of no where and has taken over active rock radio, social media and blasting through the states playing summer festivals and shows left and right. I fell in love with the song ANTI-EVERYTHING the band’s 2nd single off MIS.AN.THROPE when I first heard it just like everyone else; its groove its heaviness and the melody sing a long chorus just gets you hooked into feeling what the band is spewing to you. DED wants you to react and show emotion when you listen to the band’s debut album and well it fucking makes you feel!!!! I have not fell in love with a band this much since 36 Crazyfists came out and now I believe this debut album of DED’S has made me re-live that hyped up emotion I got when I first heard the Crazyfists boys.
So, I welcome you to MIS.AN.THROPE the debut album from the band DED. Let’s begin shall we. The album opens up with ARCHITECT and what a way to open a disc up with energy, energy, energy. Like the bands single ANTI-EVERYTHING this one has a crowd participation chorus and a song that is going to make the Pit in any state get more aggressive and bigger and bigger. The heaviness and aggressive tone is just solid in this track. FMFY is another song you might have heard on Spotify (I did) and this song is headbanging worthy, kind of reminded me of a Slipknot influenced song with lyrics that are real and will have you screaming at the top of your lungs. I EXIST also has a Slipknot feel to me but fully feeds you into the DED sound of aggressive, fast and heavy elements in which these guys are so good at portraying. One thing about DED is when you go down the list of this 11-song disc, the one thing that stands out if the ability these dudes have for writing some amazing hooks to get you totally into the choruses. They will break your face in verses but then cuddle you in the chorus and I was loving everything about this album.
HATE ME blazes with a Bizkit kind of feel with bouncy vocal boundaries; playing with some rap, hip hop vibes then kick it with a sassy chorus. A little lighter than some of the other tracks but just such a display of adventure because each song on this disc really doesn’t repeat “a sound “of the other. DEAD TO ME lyrically will get you moving makes you breathe in and out all the emotion of a bad day on this one with heavy, melody and hooks. REMEMBER THE ENEMY changes energy still hard but more melody and synth-poppy sound (but in a hard rock sense) like I said before these guys know how to write a damn good chorus and on this song yet again you will be singing along. What I totally adore about this track is the vocal voyage he brings you on its just purely delicious! ROPE rips you apart with more heavy thrills and with the tell it like it is lyrics you will be able to blow off some major stream on a bad day with just clicking on this track in your car for the ride home. DISASSOCIATE is another song with brutally honest lyrics, heavy and real. INSIDE follows suit for the record with heavy antics and melodic overtones. Then we get to the end of the album which the weird part was when I got the advance disc I put it in my car player and this track which is the last track played first and let me tell you not knowing this band but knowing they made a quote in one of the bands interviews they wanted to make a record to make you feel something. Well dudes if you wanted that to happen it happened for me on this last track BEAUTIFUL it’s a beautiful haunting ballad yes, a ballad but it’s just eerie, striking, stunning, driving, I was just totally moved by this track I can’t put my finger on why yet but every time I hear it and I play it over and over again because it is just my favorite track off the disc. I get feelings of hatred, sadness, feeling hollow, feeling beautiful and ugly and just overall goosebumps yes, I said goosebumps over a song but from the music to the lyrics to the vocal application it just is a moving song for me. So, I thank you DED for making music that actually can move a little girl from Massachusetts to cherish and adore music all over again.
So yet again if you heard of DED and you love what you heard from them now wait till this disc MIS.AN.THROPE gets released to the masses because DED has something very special captured in this 11-song album and I am happy to be one of the first to hear it.
